K’s kitten rescue recognizes that there is a troubling lack of diversity in the animal welfare community, and that some practices commonly in place within rescues deliberately or unconsciously act to discriminate against minority and economically disadvantaged adopters. We recognize that we must all do more to amplify underrepresented voices in our daily work. We understand that systemic and institutionalized racism, sexism and homophobia are still widespread, and we are committed to doing our part to combat these unacceptable social norms by committing to being active allies in the fight for universal equity.

Compassion for animals and their human caregivers is central to our mission. This Culture of Care inspires us to promote and support a diverse and equitable environment of mutual respect where all volunteers and adopters feel a sense of inclusion and belonging. We strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment for the animals we rescue, the volunteers who help with our work and the adopters who provide loving homes for the cats in our care. We see diversity, inclusion, and equity as integral and vital to the success of our mission, as well as to the wellbeing of our volunteers, and the people and communities we serve.

K’s is committed to examining the way we do our work and accomplish our mission with the goal of increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion among both our volunteers and our adopters. K’s is committed to working in partnership with the people and communities we serve. We welcome all voices to participate in our advancement of these values in the interest of working together to improve the lives of animals in need.
